Heritage Psalm Sings are a time when we get together to sing the great Psalms and Hymns of the faith once a month.
During our Psalm Sings we sing corporately, focusing on those great hymns of the church that remind us of our historic roots and the great heritage we have. But we especially focus on the singing of the Psalms.
The singing of the Psalms is something that has been lost within the Church today as a whole. The Psalms were written to be sung, and by singing the Psalms, we are singing pure inspired scripture. The Psalms are the oldest expression of music in the Church and part of our heritage as the people of God. We seek to emphasize this during our Psalm Sings.
We also have a time for individuals or families to bring us special performances of sacred music, or for recitation of memorization, or even simply scripture reading. We seek to encourage families in the memorizing of scriptures, and the playing of instruments in praise to the Lord. Having a place for special music and recitation aids families by creating a goal to work toward. This encourages memorization in families.
We also have a Hymn of the Month every month that we spend time practicing and learning parts. We believe that part of making a joyful noise to the Lord is having a good understanding of music, and by spending time learning how to make the best music we can. We encourage families to use the practicing of the hymn of the month during family worship so that our singing can indeed be a joyful noise when we come together corporately as our harmonies blend together.
